Sashiko (刺し子) means "little pokes" or "small piercing". It is a form of functional embroidery that originated in Japan. Originally it was used to mend worn clothes with multiple tiny stitches used to stabilise the worn fabric. It is now also popular as a decorative stitch in modern Sashiko quilts and Boro clothing. Join us at Stitch to learn this useful, mindful and beautiful technique.
