🍁 Autumn Vibes 🍁

Why Buy It When you Can Make It?

Happy Friday. Hope you’ve all had a good week, we can hardly believe October is upon us. As crafters, autumn is such an inspiring and pleasant time - who could fail to be stirred by the beautiful, changing colours of nature in our local parks and streets.

And as we are all probably thinking about what we purchase and why and thinking sustainably we hope some of the fantastic garment workshops coming up in the next couple of months could help you gain the practical and fulfilling skills of sewing and dressmaking- so that you can dress from top to bottom in clothes you have made yourself and take up a skill for life.

Our 4 hour Learn to Make A Denim Skirt is a brilliant workshop for beginners and intermediate sewers alike. You will learn how to work with denim, sew patch pockets, zippers, putting in a waist band, sewing a slit and the fabulous skill of top stitching.

Learn to make a Blouse is a four week workshop coming up on Monday evenings from 7-9pm. Concentrating on a few techniques every week you will have time to learn them thoroughly. This is a great class for people who have taken our 'Learn to use a Sewing Machine' Class or just wanting to further your skills in sewing. You will learn to sew this flowy blouse based on a basic pattern which can be adjusted for different seasons (long sleeves or short)

If you are already a dab hand at dressmaking we also have our Refashion & Reuse Social! every Tuesday 7-9pm where Liz encourages you to focus on altering and mending second hand or worn clothes to create something that can become a favourite once again. Turn some old jeans into a fabulous bag, add some embroidery detail to a boring sweatshirt, restyle a frumpy skirt to make it your own. Bring along anything you want to work on and share your ideas and creativity with like minded sewers in our friendly local workspace. And we are teaming up with the lovely Philanthropy shop at the 17th October session for anyone with Halloween/fancy dress costumes.

We are often asked to run Darning workshops, so in this class with Tricia you will be focusing on learning the basics of darning which is a way to mend and reinforce holes and next Saturday we also have plenty of spaces on our Sashiko - learn the art of visible mending workshop, why not join us?
